800. anniversary of the capture of Alanya
This year is a very special year for Alanya. It is the 800th anniversary of the capture of Alanya. Sultan Alaeddin Keykubat did not only gained land by capturing Alanya in 1221, he also made it to one of the first places where Turks settled at the warm Mediterranean Sea.
By building a shipyard he controlled trade across the Mediterranean, and by building castles he made this area part of the Turkish-Islamic civilization.
The Mayor of Alanya, Adem Murat Yücel, declared that 2021 will be the year of the Seljuks, because of the 800th year of the capture of Alanya. He announced that the excitement and memory for the conquest would continue throughout the year.
In order to spread the enthusiasm for conquests throughout the city, the country and on an international level, the Alanya municipality has planned to organize many events in the year 2021.
